Since producing China’s first mine winder in 1958, Luoyang-based CITIC Heavy Industries Co Ltd (CITIC HIC) has supplied over 8,000 units to more than 20 countries, which it argues makes it the world’s largest supplier of hoisting equipment.
CITIC HIC is one of the world’s three major suppliers of complete sets of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment of mine hoisting equipment, and can produce various types of mine winders such as drum winders, friction winders, Blair multi rope drum winders (BMR) and hydraulic motor-driven winders. It can also produce equipment such as dam crossing winders and hydraulic ship lifts.
The permanent magnet motor direct driven winder, multi-channel braking system, and high-voltage four quadrant variable frequency transmission system developed by CITIC HIC in recent years have all reached the international advanced level.
To reduce the energy consumption of mine hoisting, CITIC HIC has developed a permanent magnet motor direct driven winder, which it says has the advantages of high efficiency, good low-speed performance, strong overload capacity, simple structure, and convenient maintenance. “Compared with winders equipped with asynchronous drive systems, the permanent magnet motor direct driven winder achieves an energy saving rate of over 10%, and compared with winders equipped with synchronous drive systems, it achieves an energy saving rate of over 5%. It can operate stably, safely, and reliably at a low frequency of 0.02 Hz, which it says will significantly contribute to the rapid development of green and energy-efficient mining.”

The multi-channel braking system of CITIC HIC mainly consists of three parts: high-performance disc brake, multi-channel constant deceleration hydraulic station, and dual PLC redundant control cabinet. The application of constant deceleration braking principle and multi-channel control technology in multi-channel braking system it says has improved the safety performance of the hoisting system in normal operation and emergency accidents.
Key technical features include: the braking element responds quickly, the idle time less than 0.2 seconds, and service life of >2×106 cycles. The ‘pressure-speed’ dual closed-loop control of multi-channel braking system integrates a FPGA adaptive algorithm, ensuring constant deceleration in braking process under all working conditions. In emergency braking process, the speed fluctuation can be controlled within ± 3%, effectively eliminating shock vibrations and rope slippage, and improve the service life of the wire rope. The system includes a multi-channel safety braking circuit and parallel redundant oil return pipes, ensuring reliable operation. Additionally, the system features self-diagnostic capabilities and provides remote fault detection and repair, which can reduce downtime.
The CHIC1000 series high performance four-quadrant high-voltage frequency converter from CITIC HIC is designed specifically for mine winders, based on a professional motor control model, and adopts high-performance algorithms including voltage feedforward, load observer, and low-frequency ripple compensation on the basis of vector control, delivering fast torque response, stable low-frequency operation, and high power factor. It is suitable for all drive types of mine hoists including AC asynchronous, low-speed synchronous, and permanent magnet synchronous motors.
Key technical features include a high-reliability design with double system margin design; high-performance vector decoupling closed-loop control of synchronous motor which eliminates risks of creeping and reversal during startup; and variable excitation closed-loop control maintaining the power factor at 1.0, dynamically adjusting excitation current to avoid rotor overheating. CITIC HIC hoists also offer ultra-low-frequency operation where the load observer accurately predicts load torque, effectively suppressing low-frequency vibration for stable operation at 0.05 Hz.
The CITIC HIC solution has zero-speed hovering technology, enabling electrical parking at zero speed before applying mechanical brakes, ensuring stable and impact-free stopping. Using the neutral point drifting technology, the power unit with bypass fault can be restored to operation.
Recently, four sets of CITIC HIC ground-mounted friction hoists (with maximum drum diameter of 6 m and four lifting steel ropes) were designed and manufactured for Luyuan Mining Mboukoumassi Potash Mine in Republic of the Congo. Two sets of 5 m dual-drum shaft sinking hoists were also designed and manufactured for Serbia Zijin Copper in Serbia. Finally, four sets of tower-mounted friction hoists (with maximum drum diameter of 6 m, with six lifting steel ropes) were designed and manufactured for Shenhua Xinjie Energy Co Ltd.
